Chapter 7=
Basil, Dorian and Harry went to see Sybil's
vane play, the three of them had really high expectations of how genius she is
but they all get disappointed because her acting was terrible. Basil and Harry
decided not to go because they thought they were loosing their time, and Dorian
feels humiliated and disappointed. He was so unconcerned of what has happened
that he decide to talk to Sybil. When he asked her what had happened she told
her she couldn't act, she doesn't feel those intense feelings towards acting, since
acting wasn't her life anymore. Dorian was so fascinated by her previous acting
that the fact Sybil doesn't act as well as he thought made him loose all the
charming and interest he had in her. He told her that and Sybil was really sad.
Finally they got into a fight were Dorian told Sibyl he doesn't loved her
anymore and then he realized he was in love with the characters she played not
with her as a person. When Dorian arrived into his house he saw the picture
Basil painted of him but this time he notice something different, it had a
"cruel" trait on it.
Chapter 8=
At the next day Dorian was regretful of what he had done last night so he decided to write a letter to Sybil so he could show he was sorry. In that moment Harry get to visit him, he had bad news, Sybil was dead, she committed suicide that night. But the most important thing was that Dorian didn't to talk to anyone so he wont get in trouble. In that moment Dorian was in shock he thought it was his fault but Harry said to him that love would never work. Finally Harry convinced him to go to the theatre but when he got home, he begin again to see the portrait, it was getting crueler and he associated Sybil and her death. Regarding the portrait, Dorian thinks for a moment that maybe
he should pray to try and stop the weird, symbiotic relationship between his
soul and the picture. He decides, however, that he should leave the portrait as
it is, so he can watch what happens to his soul. All that matters to him is
that his own physical beauty remains unremarkable.
